My team designed and manufactured an injection molded toy from a 4th grader's drawing of a whale.
Modeling the Toy & Mold in CAD
We created the toy as a a three-part assembly. We designed for injection molding constraints such as parting lines, wall thicknesses and surface curvatures.
Machining the Mold
We minimized our mold's machining time by managing tool paths, adjusting surface roughnesses, and minimizing our tool counts. I machined the molds on a Haas vertical mill.
Injection Molding the Toy
We injection molded 100 parts of our design. We optimized for injection molding parameters such as plastic plastic flow rate and injection pressure, to achieve a repeatable, quality surface finish.
